PSM II Course Overview

The Advanced Professional Scrum Master (PSM II) course is designed for experienced Scrum Masters who have a deep understanding of Scrum fundamentals and have a desire to grow in their role. The course is an advanced offering that focuses on helping Scrum Masters develop new skills and enhance their existing ones. To actively lead the scrum team to success and help create an environment where the team can excel.

PSM II Course Objective:

The objective of the PSM II course is to help Scrum Masters:

Improve their facilitation skills to better serve Product Development Teams, Product Owners, and other stakeholders.
Understand the stances a Scrum Master uses to effectively serve their teams and organizations.
Understand the Scrum framework at a deeper level.
Gain practical insights into how to resolve complex problems and challenges.
Learn to adapt and scale Scrum and Agile principles within the organization.

PSM II Course Content:

Topics generally covered may include:

A deep dive into the Scrum framework: Events, Artifacts, and Roles
Various stances of a Scrum Master: Facilitator, Coach, Teacher, Mentor, and Change Agent
Advanced facilitation techniques
Conflict resolution and problem-solving
Serving the Product Owner and the Development Team
Measurement and metrics relevant to the Scrum Master role
Organizational change and how the Scrum Master can play a role in it

PSM II Course Duration:

The course often spans 2 days and is filled with interactive exercises, case studies, and discussions that allow the attendees to internalize the concepts.

PSM II Certification:

Upon completion of the course, attendees have the option to take the PSM II assessment, which upon successful completion, results in the highly recognized PSM II Certification.

PSM II Course Prerequisites:

While not always mandatory, it is recommended that candidates for the PSM II course have at least one year of experience as a Scrum Master and are familiar with the Scrum framework, possibly holding a PSM I or CSM certification.

What format(s) of training are available?

We offer a combination of live, in-person courses as well as live, online courses delivered via digital channels. We also do work with corporate clients where we host private classes on the company’s premises or preferred venue.

How hard is the PSM II exam?

It is tough, but fair. The PSM II course will provide you with everything you need to know to master the more advanced scrum master accountability, but will also provide you with everything you need to pass the exam.

How will the PSM II help my career?

Attending a PSM II course and passing the international exam validates your learning, knowledge, and capabilities. It provides potential employers and clients with a quality assurance that you are a proven, safe investment.

What happens if I don't pass?

Scrum.Org provide you with a free, second attempt on the PSM II examination as long as you have taken the first exam within 14 days of the course. Connect with us for additional assistance before you rewrite the examination.

Must I be a Scrum Master to attend?

No, you don’t. A new breed of Agile Leader is beginning to understand the value of the Scrum Master skillset and are actively looking to adopt those skills, so we do have a fair amount of managers / leaders attending the PSM II.

Is the PSM II Internationally recognized?

Ken Schwaber, the cofounder of Scrum, is also the founder of Scrum.Org International. As such, the PSM II or Advanced Professional Scrum Master certification is internationally recognized, certified, and respected.

Will the PSM II help with Agile coaching?

Coaching, within the context of Scrum, is a strong focus of the PSM II course. You will definitely grow your coaching skill, techniques, and capabilities through the course and learn how to lead a scrum team effectively.

What happens if I need to bail on day 1?
